New Delhi: Nokia has announced its first Android tablet, dubbed the N1. The tablet will be launched in China in Q1 2015 with a brand-licensing agreement extending to an OEM partner that will manufacture, distribute, and sell it. It will cost $249 (roughly Rs 15,400) before taxes.

The N1 is highly reminiscent of an iPad Mini as it has rounded chassis which is milled from a single block of aluminum. The tablet measures 6.9 millimeters thick and weighs 318 grams. The last time Nokia ventured into tablet territory was when it released the Lumia 2520.

The Nokia N1 comes with a 7.9-inch (2048x1536 pixel) IPS LED-backlit display protected by Gorilla Glass 3, and is powered by a 64-bit 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 processor (4 cores, 4 threads) coupled with a PowerVR G6430 GPU and 2GB of LPDDR3 (800MHz) RAM. The tablet offers 32GB of inbuilt storage (non-expandable).

The device offers an 8-megapixel rear autofocus camera with 1080p video recording, and a 5-megapixel fixed focus camera. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/n/ac with MIMO, Bluetooth 4.0, Micro-USB with reversible Type-C connector, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The device also features the reversible micro-USB 2.0 Type C connector, the latest USB connection that doesn't care which way round your cable gets plugged in.

The N1 runs Android 5.0 out of the box, but Nokia has painted over Lollipop with its own homebrew Z Launcher. The launcher quietly keeps tabs on the apps and actions you rely on most frequently, and once you use them enough they'll slowly bubble to the top of a list that lives on your homescreen.  The Z launcher is already available on the Play Store.  Moreover, you can also scribble letters on the screen to quickly pull up apps that haven't surface on the list yet.

The audio output is from the two 0.5 W stereo speakers. The Nokia N1 will be out with two color options – Natural Aluminum or Lava Gray.
