Mercedes GLA-Class SUV launched at Rs 32.75 lakh

New Delhi: In an attempt to make its presence felt in the compact luxury SUV/crossover space, German luxury car major Mercedes-Benz today launched its GLA Class model priced between Rs 32.75 lakh and Rs 36.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The much-anticipated compact crossover will take on the likes of BMW X1, Audi Q3, Land Rover Evoque and Volvo V40.

The GLA-Class is the third product, after the A-Class and B-Class, in India to have been built upon the Mercedes' MFA (Modular/Mercedes Front Architecture) platform. The segment is aimed at affluent, first-time luxury SUV/crossover buyers.

The GLA is bigger and masculine than its siblings and measures 4417mm in length, 1804mm in width, 1494mm in height 2699mm in wheelbase. The vehicle has the segment-leading ground clearance of 183mm.

The front fascia comes with a large two-slat grille finished in chrome and the A-Class inspired headlamps with daytime running lights and projector headlamps. The rear of the car offers LED tail-lamps, wide fenders and twin-exhaust pipes.

Significant features of the crossover includes active parking assist, front and rear parking sensors, navigation system, reversing camera, dual-zone climate control, audio streaming and Bluetooth connectivity. The GLA-Class also has fuel-saving features such as start-stop button and radiator grille shutters.

For safety, the GLA-Class comes with 7 airbags, anti-clip regulation, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with brake assist (BA), ESP, curve dynamic assist, hill start assist and a few more.

The vehicle is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder, petrol engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power output of 181bhp and 300Nm of peak torque. The diesel model will feature a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, diesel unit that is good for 135bhp and 300Nm. Both the powertrains will come mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
