According to the CEA report, the OPGC has also ranked 10th amongst all thermal power producers, government & private, across India during this period, it said.

During this 1st quarter (peak summer), OPGC's consistent efforts to maintain efficient power production at its IB Thermal Power Station, as evident from the report of the CEA, has certainly aided Odisha during this peak power requirement season, the release said.

It may be noted that after the formal work commencement by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in February 2014, the 2x660 MW expansion project of OPGC's 3rd and 4th Units at IB Thermal Power Station is now in the construction phase. These two units of 660 MW capacity each are scheduled to come up by 2017 and are being developed with environment-friendly super-critical technology, for which BHEL has been awarded the contract for BTG.

OPGC is also simultaneously developing the coal mines along with MGR rail corridor to transport coal to the plant.  At present, OPGC is operating two thermal power units of 210 MW each at its Ib Thermal Power Station (ITPS) in Ib Valley area of Jharsuguda district in Odisha.
