New Delhi: Hyundai Elite i20 has received over 12,000 bookings in just 15 days of its launch. Booking for the new model opened on August 1. Prices for the new Elite i20 start at Rs 4.89 lakh, ex-Delhi.
The new car is based on Hyundai's ‘Fluidic Sculpture 2.0' design philosophy, and looks completely different from the previous model. The Hyundai Elite i20 takes on the likes of the new VW Polo, Fiat Punto Evo and Maruti Swift.
Hyundai Elite i20 retains the Era, Magna, Sportz, Sportz (O) and Asta variants and is offered with two engine options- 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol mill and 1.4L U2 CRDi diesel powertrain. The petrol variant is coupled with five speed manual transmission and diesel with six speed manual gearbox.
The dual VTVT petrol engine makes 83PS of power and 115Nm of torque. The U2 CRDi diesel engine produces 90PS/220Nm. As of now, there is no automatic variant of the i20, however Hyundai is looking to add one at a later stage.
“This year our target for sales in domestic market is 4.10 lakh units. Last year we had sold 3.8 lakh units in the domestic market. The past three months have seen improvement in customer sentiment resulting in better sales in the automotive segment,” Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice President (Sales & Marketing), Hyundai Motor India Ltd had said.
The top-end variant comes with 16-inch alloys, dual airbags, ABS, parking sensors with reverse camera, auto folding mirrors as well as climate control and push button start.
In terms of safety the Elite i20 comes equipped with Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), four passenger airbags and reverse parking camera.
The entry of Elite i20 will increase the competition in the premium hatch segment. While Fiat too will introduce its all new Punto Evo in the upcoming months, Tata and Maruti Suzuki too launch their respective models in this segment.
