Idea adds maximum GSM users in March

New Delhi: Idea Cellular led GSM subscriber additions for March, followed by Vodafone India, the second largest operator, as the industry ended the month with 721.93 million users, up 1.2% from February, GSM lobby body Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) said Monday.


Aditya Birla Group company Idea added 2.24 million users, Vodafone 2.22 million while market leader Bharti Airtel gained 1.89 million subscribers, COAI said.

Idea ended the month with 135.79 million users, Vodafone with 166.56 million while Bharti Airtel maintained its lead with 205.39 million subscribers.

The number of mobile subscribers on GSM network grew by 1.16 per cent to 721.93 million in March, as per the latest data released by industry body COAI.

"All India GSM cellular subscriber figures as of March, 2014 reached 721.93 million. The (number of) GSM subscribers increased by 8.26 million in March 2014, 1.16 per cent increase from previous month," COAI said.

The number excludes subscribers of Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices, which also have GSM licences but do not report numbers to COAI.

Aircel, Uninor and Videocon added 1 million, 0.72 million and 0.32 million customers, respectively.
