New Delhi: At Consumer Electronics Show 2014, automotive equipment supplier Valeo demonstrated its iPhone-controlled 'self-parking' system at the ongoing CES 2014 in Las Vegas.

To give a demo, the company used a Range Rover Evoque equipped with its technology. A staff member simply swiped a control on an iPhone app, and the Evoque began driving along a line of cars, looking for a parking spot. After finding an open spot, the car reversed and turned its wheels, thus backing into the spot.

The car was equipped with 12 ultrasonic sensors, laser scanner and four cameras, which the company said could also parallel park or nose in independently.

The company had added a CPU, no larger than the car's standard engine control unit, to analyze the sensor data and determine the best route into the spot and a control unit for steering, braking, and accelerating.
