New Delhi: Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz India has launched the new generation C-Class priced at Rs 40.9 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The carmaker said the new C-Class adopts a progressive approach with its emotional design idiom, technological advancement, and high-class interiors.

The new C-Class will take on the BMW 3-series and Audi A4 in the premium entry level luxury sedan segment.

As of now the C-Class will be available in petrol version only. The sedan is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol unit that delivers 183.5PS of power and 300Nm of torque. It gets a 7-speed 7GTronic Plus gearbox with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.

The car can attain a speed of 0-100kmph in 7.3 seconds but the C-Class feels most in its elements as a relaxed cruiser.

The revised C-Class is based on the company's new lightweight modular rear-drive MRA (Mercedes Rear-drive Architecture) platform. The new model is 95mm longer, 40mm wider and 5mm shorter than its predecessor. With a wheelbase of 2840mm, the vehicle's interior is spacious with more space for the rear passengers. The boot space also has increased to 480-litres.

The front fascia of the new C-Class features a long bonnet that merges into the twin-slat grille. It has head-lamps, a low stance and short front overhangs.

The interior of the new C-Class is inspired by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and offers the best-in-class cabin space and features. The car's tail lamps, rear bumper, boot lid and rear bumper are an imitation of the S-Class.

The new C-Class gets electric seat adjustment with memory for both the front seats, a TFT touch screen with 3D navigation and a 13 speaker Burmester surround sound system. It also offers parking camera with park assist. On the safety side, you get seven airbags, ESP with curve dynamic assist, ABS, ARS (traction control) and brake assist. In addition to these features, the C-Class gets Hill Start Assist and a fuel saving Start/Stop function.

Mercedes-Benz has brought the car to India via the CBU route and is expected to begin local production of the car sometime next year. Next year the company also plans to introduce its more popular diesel version - the C200 CDI.
