New Delhi: Aimed specifically at small businesses, Microsoft today has introduced a free, browser-based version of Skype, called 'Skype Meetings'. This will allow real-time audio and HD video conferencing along with features like screen sharing, PowerPoint sharing and more.

What is 'Skype Meetings'?

Skype Meetings is a scaled-down version of Skype for Business. This version is included in the Office 365 business subscription, which will allow capabilities like being able to organize online meetings of up to 250 people, scheduling a Skype meeting from within the Outlook calendar. Users can also start an audio or video conversation directly within Outlook, PowerPoint or Word.

How does it work?

Setting up a meeting through Skype Meeting is very simple. You just need to share the invite link that the participants must click to join. Being a simple URL, it can also be sent through email, instant message or any mode of digital communication. Once the meeting is connected, the organizer can customize and control every participant such as mute other participants and more.

How many people can chat at a time?

After downloading the new version of Skype Meetings, the first 60 days of the Skype Meetings will allow you to video chat with up to 10 people at a time. After the 60-day period, the number of people for a simultaneous video chat will be reduced to three.
