In a move to pull up its dwindling landline business, telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has come out with a first-of-its-kind scheme which will allow its landline users to make unlimited free calls to any network's mobile and landline every Sunday on pan India basis. The scheme is all set to come into force from August 15, 2016.

A press statement issued by BSNL headquarters Delhi read, "The competent authority on recommendation of tariff committee - CFA (Consumer Fixed Access) has approved unlimited free calling from BSNL landline to any network's mobile and landline on all Sundays on pan India basis with effect from August 15, 2016."

This scheme will be in addition to BSNL's night hour scheme that was launched a year ago in which the landline users can make unlimited calls to any operator (mobile and landline) from 9pm to 7am, anywhere in India.

"With this circular, BSNL also launched promotional offer for new landline customers for a period of 90 days with effect from August 15. The customers who get a new landline in the 90 day period starting from August 15 will only have to pay a fixed monthly charge of Rs 49 and the installation charges will be free. The additional facility of free night calling (local and STD) will also be available for them," said KS Rana, AGM (sales), Meerut. The actual installation charge for a new landline phone is Rs 500.

Stating reasons behind this initiative, Rana said, "The business of landlines is on a low because people these days prefer cellphones over landlines. This initiative is meant to attract more customers towards BSNL."

The scheme covers all major landline general plans of rural and urban areas, landline special plans as well as all major combo (landline with broadband) plans.
